Meeting Report - July 13, 2002

The annual meeting of the association was held on Saturday, July 13th in the band shell at the McKellar Community Centre - it was such a beautiful day, no one wanted to be inside!

A new executive was elected with Jamie Groat becoming President, Gord Kerr continuing as Vice-President, Jeanette Clements becoming Treasurer, Jill Groat becoming Secretary and Chuck Kloetstra continuing as Newsletter Editor.  Thanks to Doreen Levine who becomes the Past-President and to Ruth-Marie Braun who, as retiring Secretary, has put in many years of service to the association.

A membership drive will be conducted over the next couple of months.  Click here if you have not already paid your 2002 membership dues, and wish to renew them now.  The association needs 32 members just to pay it's annual expenses (FOCA membership, Liability Insurance, Communication Expenses, Web Hosting Fees).  In 2001, there were 42 members. So far in 2002, membership stands at 8.  The association needs you to renew your membership - or to become a member if you have not been a member before.

Bears are increasingly coming in contact with residents around McKellar.  Anyone seeing a bear is asked to report it to 746-4201.  The Ministry of Natural Resources is keeping track of incidences of bear sightings and will intervene if they receive a number of calls from the area.

The trial period for this web site is over, and the group attending the meeting voted to keep it on line for at least another year.  In it's first year, this site attracted 1450 visitors.  Average weekly traffic is roughly 25 visitors per week.

The next meeting was set for July 19, 2003 at the McKellar Community Centre.

Meeting Report - August 25, 2001

A special meeting of the Association was held at 10:00 am on August 25 in the McKellar Community Centre.  Water testing was the primary topic.  Ted Thompson, of Martha Drive, was a guest speaker and provided attendees with some perspective regarding the issues of septic re-inspection and water quality.

Water quality on McKellar Lake and Grey Owl Lake is generally good, however, it is not recommended for drinking without filtering and treatment.  The water on both McKellar and Grey Owl Lakes is well within provincial guidelines for swimming.

Attendees voted to initiate a more formal level of testing beginning in the spring of 2002.  More details to follow on the Water Testing page.

July 7, 2001 Meeting Report
